The Omnipotence of God, Genesis 1:1

This post concerns the omnipotence of God.

‘The Omnipotence of God’ describes what it means that God has no limit to His power. Consider creation, Genesis 1:1. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Think of the power required to move planets and stars to their places in the sky. Humans do not have enough hydraulic power to move a thousandth of the weight of solar bodies. God did so during creation without a problem.

Further, during creation God manufactured solid matter from nothing. The power to do so remains far above any human mind.

The omnipotence of God has appeared on this earth. God caused the flood that destroyed all life except Noah and his family.

The omnipotence of Jesus, God’s Son, was shown in the raising of Lazarus from the dead.

Consider what the omnipotence of God means to people in the future. God has prepared a home in heaven for His followers, John 14:1-3. “…I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” Therefore, God will provide this home in heaven for eternity for His believers.

Secondly, this power of God enables Him to judge and destroy this created world, 2 Peter 3:5-7. “…the heavens existed long ago, and the earth…formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed…deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist… stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.”

In these verses, God refers to the flood He caused and makes the point that He will destroy everything on the judgement day along with the ungodly.

God still has omnipotent power today to direct the affairs of men. We should worship this powerful God today.

So, what did we learn?

1.God has omnipotent power that He used to create the world.

2.God’s omnipotent power will enable Him to save His followers in eternity in heaven and destroy the world with fire.
