Asking God, Matthew 7:7-11

This post concerns asking God or knocking on God’s door for favors.

Asking God discusses prayers to God for blessings, Matthew 7:7-11. “Ask, and it…given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will…opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you… evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father…in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”

At first reading, this scripture might seem like a blank check to get anything you pray for. However, Jesus likens these requests to the response of parents to children. We give good gifts to our children and never give bad gifts like serpents. Our heavenly Father does much more. He not only provides physical gifts to His children but also spiritual ones.

But note, our Father wants us to ask Him or knock on His door in prayer. Then, He will bless us with what we need.

Also, if we ask for something harmful, our Father, like an earthly parent, will not provide harmful things to His children.

Thus, we need to learn the lesson of these verses: pray to our Father for blessings.

So, what did we learn?

1.God wants His children to ask Him for blessings or knock on His door in prayer for favors.

2.God provides good gifts if we ask.

3.Asking God for blessings becomes the rule of life for Christians. Thus, we trust God to provide what we need and not what we do not need.
