My Shepherd, Psalm 23
This post concerns the Lord as my shepherd.
My Shepherd discusses what the Lord provides for His sheep and how to get into His fold, Psalm 23. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. … makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters…restores my soul…leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
This psalm describes God’s people as sheep in His fold. They will want for nothing. Note that in both death and in the needs of life, God provides goodness and mercy and a safe dwelling place in His house forever. To say that the Lord cares for us becomes the ultimate blessing for the child of God.
However, becoming a member of the Lord’s fold does not happen automatically. Instead, it turns out that those that obey the commands for forgiveness of sins become members of His flock. Hear what Jesus said, Matthew 28:18-20. “…Jesus … said… “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Jesus’ disciples exist as His sheep. Peter explained what believers need to do, Acts 2:38. “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,”
Forgiven people become sheep of His fold.
Today we need to obey Jesus and become a sheep in His fold to receive the blessings.
So, what did we learn?
1.The sheep of the Lord’s fold receive rich blessings.
2.We should obey to become part of the Lord’s flock and gain these rich blessings.
