Communication from God, 2 Timothy 3:16

This post concerns communication from God.

Communication from God discusses how God chose to communicate with humanity.

After creation, God did not hesitate to speak His will, as for example, with Cain and Abel because Abel offered by faith (see Hebrews 11:4) and faith can only come from the word of God, (see Romans 10:17.) Thus, they were told how to worship.

God spoke His commands to Noah, Abraham, and Moses. When Moses led the Children of Israel into the wilderness God spoke His law to Moses up on the mountain, Exodus 20:1-2. “I am the LORD your God… “You shall have no other gods before me.”

But the people were afraid, Exodus 20:18-19, “Now when all the people saw the thunder… the flashes of lightning…the sound of the trumpet… the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled… said to Moses, “You speak to us…we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.”

God sanctioned this new arrangement, Exodus 24:4. “And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD.” Thus, the written word of God began.

As time passed, God sent prophets to speak to the people. Many of the prophets wrote down what God spoke to them.

The Apostle Peter described this writing process, 2 Peter 1:21. “For no prophecy… ever produced by the will of man… men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

The Apostle Paul explained how God authorized this written word, 2 Timothy 3:16-17. “All Scripture… breathed out by God… profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction… for training in righteousness, that the man of God…complete, equipped for every good work.”

Note that the written word contains everything needed to do the work God asks of us.

Thus, these verses show that the Bible contains all we need to please God today. Let us read it, heed it, and obey God’s commands. In that way, we can gain for ourselves the reward of a home in heaven on judgment day.

So, what did we learn?

1.Inspired, Moses and others wrote what God dictated as His message.

2.The Bible provides us today with all we need to go to heaven.
