HEAVEN by JESUS John 14:1-3

This post discusses some of the things and ideas that Jesus said about heaven while on this earth.

Jesus spoke about heaven to His disciples in John 14:1-3: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Jesus likens heaven to living in a beautiful house in special rooms prepared by Him.

Can we imagine what that must be like to have Jesus prepare us a place? This proves Jesus loves us in a special way. Thus, heaven comprises a prepared place for a prepared people.

Likewise, Jesus said that after persecution, Christians should think of heaven as a reward. Matthew 5:10-12: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Recognition by Jesus in a comparison to the persecuted Old Testament prophets shows the illustrates the special nature of this reward.

However, receiving a reward for persecution does not mean that the reward as earned.

The Apostle Paul makes it clear that salvation comes by the grace of God, not something earned in some way, Ephesians 2:8: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,”

In addition, those persecuted can think of themselves as blessed by Jesus, a special privilege.

In summary, what do these verses teach?

1.Jesus prepares heaven as a special place for his disciples.

2.Although persecution is bad, one can still rejoice because of the reward by Jesus of heaven.

3.The grace of God provides heaven.
