A Gospel for Everyone, the Gospel of Luke

This post concerns how Luke represents a gospel for everyone.

‘A Gospel for Everyone’ describes how Luke inspires belief in Jesus.

Opening the gospel of Luke provides a useful dedication to Theophilus so he can know for certain about the gospel. This introduction parallels the opening of Acts. Thus, Luke represents Volume 1 of a two-volume set on Jesus and Christianity written in Koine Greek. Many people have been converted to belief in Jesus and the church by reading and discussing these two books.

Luke shows interactions with women, people with low income, and the outcasts.

A woman interrupted Jesus as he traveled to heal Jairus’ daughter, Luke 8:43. “And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians,” This woman crept up close to Jesus believing that touching Him would heal her. When she did, He healed her.

People tormented by an evil spirit or the horrible disease of leprosy were forced by society to dwell away from other people to avoid being touched, and to call out ‘leper…leper’ if anyone approached. But Jesus felt compassion, Luke 5:12-13. “While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”  Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; …clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him.”

Likewise, when Jesus crossed Galilee, he landed at Gennesaret, Luke 8:27. “When Jesus had stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he had not lived in a house but among the tombs.” Jesus felt sorrow for the man and cast out the demons.

Jesus had compassion for people of all classes.

Today, Luke can still provide salvation and encouragement.

So, what did we learn?

1.Jesus felt for the downtrodden and cured many of them of disease and demons.

2.Jesus often interacted with women.

3.A dedication at the beginning of Luke and Acts shows Luke as the author of both.

4.Since Jesus was involved with all types of downcast people, this gospel encourages everyone.
