Bible Reading Advantages, 2 Timothy 2 and 3
This post provides advantages from Bible reading.
Bible Reading Advantages discusses value from reading and studying the Bible.
Firstly, consider Israel after the death of Joshua, Judges 2:10. “… there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.”
How could this occur after God poured out blessings on these people?
Two answers appear: 1.The human mind can forget or ignore the lessons of the past. 2.The forgetful parents did not set an example or teach their children to believe in, know, and obey God’s laws.
They ignored Joshua’s example, Joshua 24:15. “…as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Daily Bible reading will aid us in setting the proper example and teaching our families to love and obey the Lord.
A second major advantage results in maintenance of our faith. The Apostle Paul warned of what lay ahead, 2 Timothy 3:1-5. “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will… lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.”
This passage describes Timothy’s world but equally describes the world in which we live. Thus, daily Bible reading provides a powerful force to maintain faith.
Also, Timothy received a command, 2 Timothy 2:15. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
Each of us wants the approval of God that comes by Bible reading, studying, and obedience.
Note that a worker who does these things characterizes one approved by God. Workers work every day. Just reading this verse encourages us to read, study, and obey the word of truth daily.
Likewise, those who daily study the Bible and obey its teachings need not appear ashamed before God.
So, what did we learn?
1.The human mind can forget God.
2.Daily Bible reading will help us remain faithful.
