Forgetfulness, Exodus 14:11

This post concerns the Israelites’ forgetfulness at the Red Sea.

Forgetfulness discusses how the Israelites felt at the Red Sea. After the tenth plague in which their first-borns died, the Egyptians rushed the Israelites out of Egypt. God guided them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Soon, they camped by the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, the Egyptians decided to re-capture them as slaves. They sent their army and came into view behind the Israelites. Then, fear seized the Israelites, Exodus 14:10-12. “…Israel cried out to the LORD…Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness?… Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

Moses spoke, Exodus 14:13-14. “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today…Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Consider what God had already done for them. Despite the fact that the Egyptians would not let them go free during the nine plagues, God sent the tenth plague and caused their freedom. So, God had freed them miraculously. Did they now imagine that God would fail to keep them free? Somehow, they had forgotten all the plagues and the power of God.

God then dried up the Red Sea so that they could cross on dry ground. When the Egyptian army tried to cross, God caused the water to return and drown them.

Many times, we are like the Israelites. We forget all the blessings God has poured upon us and His tremendous power which will cause a final resurrection and judgment at the end of time. We forget that He can provide a heavenly home.

Therefore, let us remember all that God has done and will do for us and praise Him.

So, what did we learn?

1.God freed the Israelites from slavery.

2.God dried up the Red Sea for them to cross on dry land.

3.We must never forget the blessings of God.
