The Conversion of Saul, Acts 9:1-31
This post concerns the conversion of Saul.
The Conversion of Saul discusses the cause of his belief.
Saul approved the execution of Stephen and persecution of Christians. The Jews, especially the Pharisees, rejected the resurrection of Jesus and executed those who confessed Jesus.
Thus, after the death of Stephen, Saul opposed Christianity and did not believe in the resurrection of Jesus.
On the road to Damascus to persecute more Christians, Saul saw a bright light and heard a voice, Acts 9:4-5, “…why are you persecuting me?” Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”
Immediately, Saul became a believer in the resurrection of Jesus. Then, he was told to go into Damascus, and he would hear what he needed to do. Thus, he rose, blind from the light and went into the city.
Note: Jesus did not save Saul on the road, because there was something Saul had to do. In the city, he fasted for three days before he found out what he needed to do.
God instructed a disciple named Ananias to go and cause Saul to regain sight. Ananias was fearful. But God said “Go” because Saul was a chosen preacher to the Gentiles.
Ananias came to Saul and healed his blindness.
Then, Saul was obedient and became a baptized believer.
Saul later quoted what Ananias told him, Acts 22:16. “… Rise… baptized and wash away your sin…” Thus, baptism washes away sins.
Saul immediately began to proclaim Jesus as the Messiah. This angered the Jews, and they made a plot to kill him. But the disciples helped Saul escape by letting him down outside the wall in a basket.
In Jerusalem, the brethren were afraid and would not accept Saul. But Barnabus took him and explained his conversion. Then, the Jews tried to kill him. But the brethren helped him escape to his hometown of Tarsus.
So, the church had rest throughout Judea.
Hardened sinners, indeed, all sinners today, need to read the Bible, become believers, repent, and undergo baptism like Saul.
So, what did we learn?
1.Saul believed in Jesus’ resurrection and underwent baptism for forgiveness of his sins.
2.Hardened sinners, all sinners, need to do the same today.
