Send Me, Isaiah 6:1-10

This post concerns Isaiah saying, ‘send me.’

‘Send Me’ discusses the call and work of Isaiah.

The first five chapters of Isaiah opens with the announcement of a sinful, disobedient nation. Then, a prophecy of the coming to Jerusalem of the Messiah appears. At that time, confusion reigns as to who will lead Israel because God has abandoned Israel. Next, Isaiah figurately sees the Lord in the temple, Isaiah 6:1. “I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.”

In this vision, Isaiah sees something of the greatness and holiness of God on His throne and the seraphim that surround Him. They constantly praise God, Isaiah 6:3. “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

This vision caused Isaiah to reflect upon his status, Isaiah 6:5. “Woe…me For I… lost…a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

Then, God cleansed Isaiah, Isaiah 6:6-7. “Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt…taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Then, God asked a question, Isaiah 6:8. “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

So, Isaiah answered, Isaiah 6:8. “Here I am! Send me.”

Next, God forecast the difficulties, Isaiah 6;9. “Go and say to this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and to be healed.”

However, Israel would not listen.

Twenty centuries have passed, and today God still looks for volunteers to say ‘send me’ to a people that will not hear or understand their need for healing from their sins by God.

So, what did we learn?

1.God dwells in glory.

2.God purifies Isaiah.

3.God sends Isaiah to preach to a rebellious people.

4.We should volunteer to be sent today.
