The Majestic Name, Psalm 8
This post concerns how the majestic name of God should impress itself on our lives.
The Majestic Name discusses the glory God deserves, Psalm 8. “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
Firstly, note that this praise concerns “in all the earth.” Thus, the creation of all things provides praise to God.
Secondly, this glory transcends even the heavens.
Even little children sing “Hosanna to the Son of David,” and Jesus was pleased, (see Matthew 21:16.)
Thirdly, scan the world around you. The universe and humanity exist a little lower than the angels because God made them that way. Man with his dominion over everything on this earth, finds superiority because of the will of God in creation.
When we think of our station in life, we praise God for all He has done and proclaim that even the name of God appears majestic.
Let us truly understand how God’s name represents this majesty.
So, what did we learn?
1.Even God’s name finds itself above everything.
2.Jesus said that even children praise God.
3.We should praise the majestic name of God.
