Miracles and Faith, Mark 5:25-34

‘Miracles and Faith’ discusses several miracles together that stress believing in Jesus.

Mark chapter five starts with Jesus casting out a legion of demons from a ‘wild’ man in the tombs. When Jesus gets into the boat to recross the Sea of Galilee, the cured man asked to go with Him, Mark 5:19. “And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

The man showed deep faith, Mark 5:20. “And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.”

The remainder of the chapter records two miracles coupled with faith, Mark 5:22. “…one of the rulers of the synagogue, … fell at his feet and implored him… “My little daughter…at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her,”

While Jesus was going with the ruler, a woman just touched His garments believing that touch could heal her of a twelve-year blood flow issue. Jesus did but asked who in the crowd had touched Him. When the woman confessed, He recognized her, Mark 5:34. “your faith has made you well… healed of your disease.”

As He went further with the ruler, they heard that the daughter died. Jesus responded to the ruler, Mark 5:37. “Do not fear, only believe.”

When Jesus arrived at the house, He found weeping and wailing for the dead child. He then put everyone out of the house except the parents and three disciples. Then He raised her from the dead.

This chapter and the recorded miracles happened to illustrate the amazing power of Jesus. He can cast out a legion of evil spirits. He can stop an impossible long-term illness and raise a dead person to life.

Truly, we should have faith in, believe in, and worship Him as the Son of God.

So, what did we learn?

1.Faith in Jesus accomplished notable miracles.

2.We should exhibit faith today regardless of the circumstances.
