On the Road, Philippians 1:9-11

This post concerns how to live to the glory and praise of God while on the road to the judgement day.

‘On the Road’ describes what Christians need to have in their lives to give glory to God. Paul begins this letter expressing his love for the Philippian church, Philippians 1:3-6. “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you… because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

Later, in this letter Paul explains this partnership, Philippians 4:15-16. “And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.”

Thus, Paul expressed thanks for their love and support.

Furthermore, he prayed for growth in their love, Philippians 1:9. “…my prayer that your love may abound more and more,”

Paul wants them to exhibit growth in two ways, verse 9. “with knowledge and all discernment,” Correct growth will result from study of God’s word and practical application thereof.

In Philippians 1:10-11 we read “… so that you may approve what… excellent… pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ,” This passage points to the judgment day and righteousness that comes from Christ’s death on the cross for the children of God.

Therefore, living this way results in soul salvation and glory and praise of God, Philippians 1:11. “… to the glory and praise of God.”

Thus, this kind of living lights the way to eternity with God and glory to Him.

Today, we can accomplish growth as a child of God in the same way—by study of the Bible and application thereof.

So, what did we learn?

1.Learning what God wants and incorporating it into our lives provides us with a pure and blameless life.

2.Incorportating into our lives what God desires provides us with righteousness and glorifies God.
