Worry, Acts 2:38

This post concerns the mind and some of the worry that fills it.

‘Worry’ describes our daily concerns about eternity. Thus, worry, worry, worry often fills our lives and minds.

The Bible tells us what will happen after death, Hebrews 9:27. “…it…appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,”

Death and Judgment about eternity represent a certainty for us.

However, many worry because we lack proper preparation for this judgment.

Peter explains how to get ready for judgment by getting forgiveness of our sins.

In Acts 2 after the Holy Spirit fell on the twelve, Peter answered the question, ‘what does this mean’ by beginning with the prophet Joel, Acts 2:16. “…this.. what was uttered through the prophet Joel: ‘And in the last days it shall…, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh…”

…And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall…saved.’ Then, he discusses calling on the name of the Lord and Jesus. Although He had performed many signs and wonders, the Jews rejected and subsequently crucified Him. But God raised Him from the dead. The twelve apostles served as witnesses of this resurrection.

This means that God made the one the Jews crucified the Lord and Messiah.

At this point, the crowd were now becoming believers. They were struck by what they had done and asked Peter, Acts 2:37. “what shall we do?”

Peter answered clearly, Acts 2:38. “Repent and …baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,”

Thus, this worried crowd found relief, Acts 2:41. “So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.”

Likewise, today this represents the remedy for our worries about our sins and the judgment to come.

So, what did we learn?

1.A crowd, believing in Jesus and worried about their sins heard Peter tell them that after belief, repentance and baptism would gain them forgiveness of their sins.

2.Those today that have worries about their sins and the judgment find relief in the same way.
