Sparkling Faith, Matthew 5:16

This post concerns faith of a sparkling nature some of the time, and some of the time not.

Sparkling Faith discusses how strong our faith should be and times when it fails. Our minds control strong or weak faith. At one time, Jesus commissioned seventy-two followers to go before him, Luke 10:1-3. “After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few…”

No doubt, these laborers showed strong faith in Jesus when sent out. These seventy-two represent a substantial number. However, where were these earlier laborers when Jesus went on trial? And where were they when He hung on the cross? Only John appeared at the cross. Thus, the faith of the seventy-two sparkled when Jesus sent them out but seems to have disappeared when persecution arose.

This same flame-out can happen to us. We can show solid faith when baptized but then lose the sparkle when temptations arise.

How can we increase our faith so that it remains strong? Three avenues are found in the word of God:

1.Attend worship and Bible study meetings faithfully and encourage others, Hebrews 10:23-25. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,  not neglecting to meet together as… the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

2.Pray and give thanks, 1 Thessalonians 517-18. “… pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;”

3.Watch out for the devil, 1 Peter 5:8. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith,”

So, what did we learn?

1.Our faith can increase and decrease.

2.Faithful worship, Bible study, and prayer can increase our faith.

3.We must resist the devil.
