Almost Converted, Acts 26:28

This post concerns Paul’s sermon to Festus and Agrippa.

‘Almost Converted’ discusses Agrippa’s response.

Agrippa grew up in Judaism. So, Paul recalled his life as a Pharisee. He had joined in with the persecution of Christians.

But a remarkable change brought Paul to Christianity. He rehearsed how it happened while he on the road to Damascus with authority to continued persecution, Acts 26:13-15. “…I saw on the way a light from heaven… that shone around me and those who journeyed with me…I heard a voice saying to me… ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?…And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I…Jesus whom you are persecuting.”

Then, Jesus said that He had appeared to Saul to appoint him as a servant and witness to the Jews and the Gentiles so that they could receive forgiveness of sins and a place in heaven.

So, Paul obeyed, Acts 26:19-20. “…declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God…”

At that point, the Jews had grabbed him and tried to kill him. But Paul continued to preach and stress what the prophets and Moses said about Jesus, Acts 26:22-23. “…what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”

Festus interrupted to say that Paul had gone out of control. Paul responded, Acts 26;25-26. “…I am speaking true and rational words. For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly.”

Then, Paul asked Agrippa if he believed the prophets and stated, “I know that you believe.”

Agrippa seemed impressed, Acts 26:28. “In a short time would you persuade me to be s a Christian?”

At that point, Festus and Agrippa arose and left. They both agreed that Paul had committed no crime. Agrippa said that Paul might have been released except for his appeal to Caesar.

So, what did we learn?

1.Paul preached stressing the prophets to Agrippa.

2.Agrippa seemed to be impressed.

3.Paul could have been freed except for appealing to Caesar.
