Conversion of a Soldier, Acts 10
This post records the conversion of a Roman soldier.
Conversion of a Soldier discusses teaching Cornelius, a Gentile who lived in Caesarea, the Gospel.
This devout soldier saw a vision, Acts 10:3-5. “About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God…”
Then, an angel told him that God saw his alms and heard his prayers. He should now send for Peter in Joppa and listen to him. Cornelius obeyed.
Meanwhile, Peter in a trance saw a sheet with unclean animals and heard the voice say, kill and eat. Peter objected. He did not eat unclean animals. So, the voice in the trance responded, Acts 10:15. “What God has made clean, do not call common.”
Then, Peter was told to go with the men who Cornelius had sent.
Thus, Peter went. He explained to Cornelius that God had told him to not show reluctance to go to a Gentile, Acts 10:28. “God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.”
Thereafter, Peter preached about Jesus as the Son of God. While he preached, the Holy Spirit fell on the household of Cornelius exactly as the Holy Spirit had fallen on the apostles on Pentecost, Acts 2:2-4. “… suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting… divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit,”
So, Peter, convinced he should extend the gospel to the Gentiles, baptized Cornelius and his household. Acts 10:47. “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Thus, God showed that He accepted Gentiles into the saved group, the church.
Therefore, today, we should extend the gospel and salvation to all people.
So, what did we learn?
1.A soldier received salvation.
2.Gentiles received salvation.
3.Believers experienced baptism for the remission of sins.
