No Miracle, John 4:46-54
This post concerns a cure when no miracle showed itself.
No Miracle discusses faith without seeing a cure.
Jesus’ reputation to heal miraculously spread everywhere. Once when Jesus was in Cana, a nobleman came from Capernaum, John 4:47. “When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.” This desperate situation caused a man with some faith to come to see Jesus. He may have viewed Jesus as a doctor with a reputation of healing miraculously.
Jesus explained that belief was the goal, not signs or wonders, John 4:48. “So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The man showed his desperate faith, John 4:49. “The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
Then, Jesus tested his faith, John 4:50. “Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.”
Despite no visible miracle, the man had enough faith to obey.
As he traveled homeward, his servants met him and told him his son was recovering. When the man found out that his son began to get better at the exact hour that Jesus had said he would recover, his faith increased even more. This caused his entire household to believe. Clearly, Jesus could perform miracles over a long distance.
Today, Jesus asks us to believe on Him without seeing a visible miracle. Instead, the cure on the nobleman’s son recorded in the New Testament and many other miracles, even raising the dead, help us to have belief in Him.
Thus, do I believe in Jesus even though I have never observed a miracle visibly?
So, what did we learn?
1.Jesus can cure though a large distance away.
2.Today, the New Testament should convince us that Jesus did miracles as the Son of God.
