PILATE’S INTEGRITY Luke 23:13-16
This post explores Pilate’s integrity.
Acting honestly with himself and others defines Pilate’s integrity.
When confronted by the Jews, Pilate showed his lack of integrity by his decisions.
At the first confrontation, Pilate sent Jesus to Herod for condemnation. When Herod returned Jesus without judgment, Pilate’s integrity sought to release Jesus as not guilty, Luke 23:13-16:
“Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. I will therefore punish and release him.”
Because Pilate knew Jesus was not guilty, he offered to beat Him and let Him go. But the Jews objected strenuously and chanted ‘crucify him’ until Pilate relented and delivered Jesus to be crucified. Finally, the chanting forced Pilate to come to his decision. Pilate’s integrity vanished, and he allowed Jesus to be crucified even though he knew Jesus was innocent.
Sometimes, like Pilate, we find our integrity tested.
So, how can we train ourselves to keep our integrity and make right decisions?

The Apostle Paul helps, 1 Corinthians 10:13:
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
Thus, we can find a way to escape temptations and maintain our integrity because God promised to shield us from overwhelming temptations

Reading our Bible every day stimulates us to deeper faith and strengthens our integrity. We read about those who were able to repel temptation and follow their example.
