Why does Jesus say I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD? John 8:12-20

The Old Testament taught that God and His Word were the proper guide-lights for life, Ps. 119:105; Is. 49:6. The Jews refused to believe in or follow Jesus—see Jo. 5:18; 30-36. Jesus explains that His followers won’t walk in darkness because He is their spiritual guide, the light of life. Jesus repeats that He and the Father bear witness, v. 18. This means His miracles prove that He is the light, God’s designated guide for mankind.
