Why were Jesus’ legs not broken but His side pierced? John 19:31-37

The legs of the crucified were broken to hasten their death. The soldiers did not break Jesus’ legs because he was already dead, but they did pierce his side to ascertain death and fulfilled Psalms 34:19-20, (‘not one of his bones are broken.’) Likewise Exodus 12:46 was fulfilled (not one of the bones of the paschal lamb were to be broken.) Jesus was our Paschal Lamb, 1 Cor. 5:7. The piercing of Jesus was  prophesied in Zech. 12:10.
