Why did Jesus send the apostles a HELPER? John 15:26-27

On the night before He was crucified, Jesus prepared the eleven for the time when they would be without Him. He had explained with the vineyard analogy the close union that He had with them. He warned them that they would suffer persecution because they were His disciples. They were to obey His commands and bear fruit. Now He tells them that they will have help, the Holy Spirit, to bear witness of Him. This happened in Acts 2.
