What figure of speech did the Pharisees not understand? John 10:1-8

They did not understand His reference to sheep and shepherds. In Zech. 34:1-24 God condemned derelict leaders, promised to care for the sheep Himself, and to provide one shepherd. Jesus describes the Pharisee leaders as thieves and robbers, v. 8, and says that He is the door to good spiritual care—the good Shepherd. His true sheep hear His voice and follow Him. In the future, He would lay down His life for His sheep.
