HOW GOD IS
Remember those teenage years when we argued, whined, and made life miserable for our parents? We did not know how our parents really were. They were viewed as ignorant, unkind, and authoritative. Remember? As adults, we now know that that’s not how parents are.
In a similar way we are sometimes like children and are unaware of how God is.
He is surely a great and powerful creator, Genesis 1:1:
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
We need to think of God as a great heavenly Father who created us.
The Apostle Paul helps by describing God to the men of Athens at the Aeropagus, Acts 17:23-24:
“…What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth…”
The Apostle continues that God is readily available, Acts 17:26-27:
“And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth… that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,”
The Apostle noted that God has a message for mankind and the reason for it, Acts 17:30-31:
“The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness…”
This means we should repent of our sins because judgment is coming.
The nature of our powerful, creative God is to call all men to repent before the judgment day arrives.
