God’s Judgement      Romans 2:2-8

This post concerns God’s judgement on the last day.

‘God’s Judgement’ discusses how God will judge people at the end of time. Some people imagine that their religion provides a free ticket to heaven and yet live sinful lives. They imagine that God will overlook their sins and condemn others who commit the same sins. Not so, Romans 2:2-3. “We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man— you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself— that you will escape the judgment of God?

God’s judgement inevitably falls on all sinners.

But God’s kindness in allowing one to continue life should signal the need to repent of sins, Romans 2:4. “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?”

While I live, I can and should repent of my sins and not look at others.

Romans 2:5 shows the problem. “But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. The hardness and impenitent nature of my heart causes me to look at others instead of myself.

God will judge each of us according to how we lived, Romans 2:6-8. “He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.”

Those who patiently do good deeds will receive a home in heaven. But for those who seek to elevate self, refuse to obey God, and practice evil, eternal destruction awaits.

So, what did we learn?

1.Judging others will not help my prospects for eternity.

2.Continued life means God grants me time to repent.

3.A hard, impenitent heart will lead to eternal destruction.
