#2. TEACHING OUR CHILDREN that the Bible is God’s Word
Children can learn at an early age to respect and believe the Bible. For example, how they hear and see their parents talk about and use the Bible will instill in them the proper attitude. Hearing the Bible read or telling a Bible story during a Family Bible Hour is an excellent way to teach the child that the Bible is important.
As the child grows and learns what it means to forecast or foretell the future, the amazing prophecies of the Bible can be cited as proof that the Bible must be from God because only God could predict the future. The prophecy of Daniel 2:31-45 is an excellent place to begin because it prophesies 300-400 years into the future from Daniel’s time. Isaiah 51-53 provides powerful prophecies about Jesus being crucified that came true.
At a higher age the amazing characteristics of the Bible—written in 3 languages over a period of 2000 years without significant contradictions—can be upheld as further proof of the origin of the Bible. When the child is old enough, 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 can be cited to prove that the words of the Bible were given by God to inspired the authors.
Probably in junior high, the child will be old enough to understand that Job 26:7 shows the world is not located on the back of some animal like a turtle as believed by the ancients. Also, the earth is suspended in space as shown in Isaiah 40:21-22. This meant that the world is not flat as believed by the people during the time the Bible was written. These observations agree with the findings of science and again prove that the Bible must be from God.
Passages that can be cited and read to the child during the daily Bible reading time:
Daniel 2; Isaiah 51-53; John 20:30-31; Luke 1:1-4; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13; 2 Timothy 3:14-17
(Each family is encouraged to have a daily Bible reading or story time.)
